One out of nine for Casino Royale

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Daniel Craig and Satsuki MitchellCasino Royale failed to achieve any great success at the Baftas. Out of nine nominations, the James Bond movie won just one award, and that was for sound.

Actress Eva Green did though take an award home with her. The 26-year-old, who played Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, was given ‘The Orange Rising Star’ award.

Daniel Craig was beaten to the Best Actor award by Forest Whitaker, for his portrayal of Idi Amin in The Last King Of Scotland.

Composer David Arnold missed out on the film music award to Babel director Gustavo Santaolalla.

Of course, Dame Judi Dench had no chance of snatching the best actress award from fellow Dame, Helen Mirren.

Craig no LA fan

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Bond actor Daniel Craig has revealed his dislike for Los Angeles.

Craig told Elle magazine: “Los Angeles may be a good place to visit, but it’s also a good place to get out of.

“It doesn’t feel like a proper city. Perhaps I shouldn’t have said that – I’m going to get hate mail now.”

On the LA social scene, he said: “You can’t party in Los Angeles. Everything closes at 10 o’clock! The studios made that happen to stop actors staying in bars until three o’clock in the morning. Everybody parties at home.”

He added: “I choose my friends very carefully and I prefer small gatherings to large parties.”

More excitement in ‘Casino Royale’?

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Daniel Craig says the James Bond that will be seen in ‘Casino Royale’ will be more human than in previous movies.

Craig told the BBC’s ‘Film 2006′ show: “I just wanted to see him make a few mistakes.

“I want to make the audience believe that it’s all going to go wrong and then when it goes right it’s much more exciting.”

He added: “I’m a Bond fan. If I go and see a Bond movie there are certain things I think should be in it. And they’re there. We’ve got them in spades.

“Nobody knows more than I do how important this is, and it’s my job to get it right.”

On the physical side of playing 007, he said: “Every day you pick up an injury and you’re battered and bruised. If you’re not physically fit then it’s difficult to get through.”

Campbell: Craig is the best Bond actor!

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Casino Royale director Martin Campbell has given the highest possible praise to new Bond Daniel Craig by saying that he’s a better actor than previous 007 stars Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan.

Campbell said: “I am convinced that Craig is the best actor who has ever played James Bond.

“We show that Bond will suffer from emotional and physical pain. Honestly, we couldn’t do that with Pierce.”

Craig senior: It’s all cobblers!

Monday, March 13th, 2006

The father of Daniel Craig says slammed people who say his son Daniel isn’t up to playing 007 in ‘Casino Royale’.

Tim Wroughton-Craig told the Sunday Mirror: “It is all cobblers. Daniel is a hard lad – you wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark street. Is he a wimp? No, I wouldn’t like to call him that to his face. As for the idea he doesn’t like guns – when he was younger he would play with a toy gun like any other boy.

“At 15, Daniel was playing rugby for Birkenhead Park Colts. He can look after himself all right. As a lad he was a tough rugby player and he would probably have become a professional if things hadn’t turned out differently. He used to work behind the bar of a pub in Portobello Road, London, and he could certainly handle himself if fights kicked off.”
